Arts and Humanities Research Culture in GermanyFlag for Germany

‘While on the face of it, German academia may not seem to function too radically different to what you are used to from the UK, this guide is designed to help you understand the differences you will nonetheless soon find there are. Providing information on the higher education system in general, it puts an emphasis on the information and cultural differences that will matter most to postgraduates – it has been written with (future) PhD students in mind, who, based at a UK university, are planning a research stay in Germany or intend to do their whole PhD at a German university. I would hope it also proves useful to students at other stages of their studies as well as senior academics in preparing their first conference/ research visit to Germany or in giving advice on studying abroad. I would be delighted if visitors to the site would keep this guide up-to-date by contributing their own experiences or advice and useful links via the comment box.’
